Community Service Committee
Purpose
The purpose of the Community Service Committee is to engage the school community in significant projects of social development, justice, and influence.
We are striving to create a collaborative committee as a focus for the Aitken community and beyond to engage actively and visibly in the service of others. The committee will be seen as the place that can make things happen and support the most vulnerable populations. Social Development, Justice, and Influence will be a vital incubator for fostering students’ talents and skills and building their character to create a legacy of meaningful social change.
Objectives
- Aitken College is a beacon for character development; its staff, students and parents embody a culture of respect, kindness, and compassion for others by positively impacting local and global communities.
- Turn community connection into community action. To utilise the strong connections Aitken has with families and community and expand opportunity and options for young people.
- Aitken may offer mentorship for students, a talent bank that can be drawn upon to enhance classes, and work placements/internships.
- We may be able to offer a network for young people who may be feeling left out or unsure about what they want to do with their life.
Role
The role of the Community Service Committee is to:
- Draw on existing skills and relationships both within and beyond the school.
- Annually seek expressions of interest, coordinate, and endorse the development of external school community service projects across the entire school or Primary (Fairview and Cumberland), Dunhelen and Brookhill.
- Provide an opportunity for input before making decisions around projects which will require leadership team approval.
- Seek to engage as many students, staff and families as possible in any approved projects.
- Communicate approved upcoming or ad-hoc community service projects and share the outcomes of completed projects.
- Seek and approve fundraising charities for each calendar year
- Receive community requests for assistance and if possible to mobilise a collaborative response
