What a wonderfully busy Term 1 it has been! It has been delightful to see our new students, teachers, and families settle so beautifully into the College community. In the Primary School, building strong relationships and ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging are always priorities, and it has been heartwarming to see this come to life throughout the term.
Students have enjoyed a wide range of exciting learning experiences, including the KABOOM Tabloid House Sports, House collaborative activities, buddy sessions, excursions and incursions, the Swimming Carnival, House Cross Country, and 5/6 Sport for Cumberland. Classrooms have been buzzing as teachers and students engaged in rich learning tasks and assessments. Our Parent–Teacher–Student Interviews were a wonderful way to conclude the term, strengthening our shared commitment to each child's learning journey. After such an energetic start to the year, we are all ready for a well-earned break to relax and recharge!
We have also been incredibly proud of the positive behaviours demonstrated across both the classroom and playground. Students continue to model our College values in many ways and are recognised through our House token system and the random spinning wheel at Assembly. Our School-Wide Positive Support framework and behaviour expectation matrix are regularly referred to and explicitly taught, helping us maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment.
Well done to the Primary students who performed so confidently at the Captain’s Concert in the CPA. Our students entertained the audience with exceptional talent and enthusiasm, performing instrumental performances, singing, and dancing. Performing on stage takes great practice, perseverance, passion, and courage, and every performer should feel extremely proud. A huge thank you to our Performing Arts staff and the Captains for their hard work and organisation in making it a memorable evening for all.
A huge thank you to our families for supporting the Year 6 Community Service Captain’s fund-raising event ‘Guess the number of lollies in the lolly jar’. Charlotte and Samarveer (the Community Service Captains) were proud to announce that, in total, our community raised $633 for the Royal Children’s Hospital. What a wonderful achievement!
A heartfelt thank you goes to our students for their hard work, enthusiasm, and growing ability to play collaboratively, negotiate, compromise, and show respect, care, and compassion. Thank you also to our dedicated teachers, whose passion, commitment, and thoughtful planning ensure students are engaged in meaningful and challenging learning experiences every day. And finally, a warm thank you to our parents and carers—your ongoing support of our school, staff, and programs is truly appreciated.
As Primary School Captains, we have had an amazing start to our first term! Some of our responsibilities include running assemblies, listening to student ideas, and being positive role models. Another important part of our role is bringing student suggestions to the College Council meeting, where we meet with the College Executives as well as other leaders, such as the College Captains and Dunhelen Captains. As many of you know, we also run the weekly assemblies, which require lots of preparation, organisation, and confidence.
Each week, we try to introduce something new or highlight an event happening around the world. We sometimes create videos or slides to make our assemblies more engaging and to demonstrate more IB Learner Profile attributes. This term, we’ve covered events such as St Patrick’s Day, World Compliment Day, Harmony Day, and many more.
Overall, being School Captains has been a fun and rewarding experience. It has given us the opportunity to develop our leadership skills while watching other students grow alongside us. We look forward to continuing our responsibilities throughout the year!
