Term 2 has been a vibrant and engaging time in the Primary School, filled with rich learning experiences, exciting events, and wonderful growth for our students. Across all year levels, students have participated in a range of incursions, excursions, and House activities that have supported both their academic and social development.
A highlight for many students from Prep to Year 6 was the Life Education program, including a visit from Healthy Harold at Fairview Assembly, which reinforced important health and wellbeing messages. Our weekly assemblies have also been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student learning, with each year level sharing their highlights, particularly with their Units of Inquiry.
Prep students have enthusiastically embraced their daily guided play program. This has supported the development of collaboration, social skills, oral language, and curiosity. Building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy has remained a key focus. Students particularly enjoyed exploring living things and participating in the hands-on Wildlife Xposure incursion.
In Year 1 and Year 2, students have continued to be challenged and supported in their literacy and numeracy learning. Connections to their Units of Inquiry have enriched their experiences. Year 1 students especially enjoyed working alongside their Year 5 STEAM buddies using Dash Robots, as well as learning about living things and their habitats through informative writing and creative 2D and 3D artwork. Year 2 students had a fantastic excursion to the Botanical Gardens where they explored ecosystems firsthand. They also developed their persuasive writing skills, learning how to effectively communicate ideas and opinions.
Students in Years 3 to 6 have been actively involved in a variety of events, including House Athletics and Cross Country. Many also enjoyed the annual Cumberland Dance Party organised by the Parents and Friends Association.
Year 3 students have explored Earth’s changes, ecosystems, and significant events, cultures, and traditions.
Year 4 students have been building practical life skills through the Kitchen Garden program, working collaboratively to prepare recipes and learn about sustainability. They have also investigated scientific concepts related to energy transfer. There is much excitement as they look ahead to their upcoming camp next term.
Year 5 students have thoroughly enjoyed their first year participating in the 5/6 Sport program, as well as developing their coding skills in STEAM using Blockly.
Year 6 students have taken part in engaging role plays simulating Parliament, where they debated and discussed Bills. They have also embraced leadership opportunities through the Prep Buddy and Peer Support programs.
Our Primary School remains committed to implementing a Positive Behaviour Support framework, which promotes a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. The Behaviour Expectation Matrix is explicitly taught and reinforced, helping students understand and demonstrate expected behaviours. Initiatives such as the ‘spinning wheel’ at assemblies have provided a fun and engaging way to recognise and celebrate positive choices.
