On Tuesday 7 May, around 80 students from various Uniting Church schools participated in a Social Justice Day forum at Aitken College. Aitken hosted students coming from Penleigh and Essendon Grammer, Kingswood College and St Leonard’s College. The theme explored Social Justice and Social Media with students participating in a range of activities. In the morning sessions, guest speakers addressed the students including Dr David Collins a Clinical Psychologist, Tim Molineux the Social Justice Officer from the Uniting Church of Australia Justice (UCA) and International Mission Unit and Kelly Woods from Younger Generations UCA, Equipping Leadership for Mission Unit.
In the afternoon students working in groups to develop a social justice action plan using Social Media.
It was a great opportunity to learn more about AI (Artificial Intelligence), algorithms, social media and wellbeing.
The day was organised with the support of a dedicated small group of Year 11 Aitken students, some of whom had attended a previous social justice day.
