Celebrating Successful Students in the Secondary School

Written by Mr Chris Graham (Assistant Principal - Secondary)

As we come to end of Term 1, 2026, I feel it’s important that we celebrate our Aitken community and some of the amazing achievements of some individual students.

I’ve often heard it said that a beautiful church is made of the people that occupy the beautiful buildings; so too is a school. While we have wonderful facilities, I feel it’s important to highlight the people that make our amazing community. I asked students to submit stories of some achievements of which they are proud. In this article I wanted to highlight some of them.

This list is by no means exhaustive and doesn’t cover every amazing thing happening.

Baran Aras (Year 10) and Kiyan Acar (Year 8) were recently selected for the Victorian Soccer team, both boys have played many years in MPL teams and have had the opportunity to represent Victoria.

Sze Sze Lai (Year 7) has become a published author, and by doing this, actually becoming one of the youngest published authors in Australia. You can read more about this remarkable student and order copies of her books from her website https://szeszelai.com/

Sage Verga (Year 11), Kalistah Bugeja (Year 10), Holly Sutton (Year 9), and Victoria Goudy (Year 11) were all chosen in the representative team, Calder Cannons. Victoria had the honour of being chosen as the Calder Cannons captain and was also selected in the Vic Metro Team.

Angus De Luca (Year 12) is one of our 2026 Sustainability Captains has recently been selected to be part of the Youth Advisory Committee for Zoos Victoria. This committee works with Zoos Victoria, looking specifically how young people can help the Zoo’s  mission ‘fighting extinction’.

If families or students are aware of other amazing achievements by our students, we’d love to hear about them. Please feel free to email me at cgraham@aitkencollege.edu.au
