At Aitken College, our vision sees a future where young people are inspired to do their personal best in service to themselves and others, in association with the Uniting Church in Australia. Our staff are a passionate team dedicated to our College’s culture of innovation, continuous improvement and better practice. In collaboration, we provide our students with the best possible opportunities. As professionals, we are solutions focused, as there is rarely only one way to the desired outcome.
We actively recruit innovative, dynamic, flexible and collaborative educators committed to contemporary education models, including Gold Standard Project Based Learning (PBL) and Design Thinking. Because learning occurs in many different ways, a variety of learning and teaching approaches are being used at all levels, within a caring and well-coordinated school environment which encourages effort and rewards achievement. The students are at the centre of the learning environment and encouraged to be actively involved in their learning as they ask questions and seek answers. Our commitment to student agency informs the development of activities and programs at all levels, including “hands-on” activities.
Aitken College has a sound educational philosophy which ensures we provide a range of innovative, challenging and relevant learning experiences for each student, consistent with a commitment to a comprehensive curriculum and the full development of each student. The programs of, and teaching in, Aitken College support and promote the principles and practices of Australian democracy including a commitment to: elected government, the right of law, equal rights for all before the law, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and association and values of openness and acceptance. Aitken College is committed to child safety. We promote the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal children and children with a disability.
Our team are equally committed to the development of character. Our educators nurture the development of self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, and to cultivate leadership skills. Consideration for the needs of others, and a respect for the environment, is encouraged at both a local and global level. Above all, we commend to our students the values which arise from the Gospel and the traditions of the Christian Church – values such as compassion, excellence, honesty, kindness and respect. These values inform the way in which our staff interact and undertake their work.
All staff are required to abide by the College’s Child Safe Policy and Child Safety Code of Conduct.
